FAT INJECTIONS
("SMILE LINES", LIPS, "FROWN LINES")

Micro-lipoinjection is a new method of "filling out" unwanted facial depressions, "smile lines", "frown lines", irregular contour defects, (i.e. post-acne pitting), or to augment thin or underdeveloped lips. In contrast to other materials using animal protein (i.e. bovine collagen) or synthetic materials (Gortex), lipoinjections use entirely one's own tissue harvested from excess fat deposits in the hips, thighs or lower abdominal regions.

This technique has been proven to be highly successful in resculpting facial and body contour irregularities. Absorption rates are approximately 20 to 30% at one year, although this may vary from individual to individual.

PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY:
Lipoinjection is performed as an outpatient under "twilight" sedation (you are totally unconscious) administered by a Board certified anesthesiologist at our state of the art AAAASF outpatient facility - The Aesthetic Surgery Center. The surgery usually lasts one to one and a half hours and is often done in conjunction with face or neck lift, eyelid or nasal surgery, mini-brow lift, laser/dermabrasion, liposuction, or other cosmetic procedures. Tiny stab incisions are made in inconspicuous areas and the fat is aspirated through thin cannulas (2 to 3 mm.) attached to a suction device. The fat is then processed for reinjection by a process of emulsification, purification and centrifugation. The "pure" liquid fat is reinjected into contour defects of the face or body with a 16 or 18 gauge needle, leaving no marks of surgical incisions. Excess syringes of fat are labelled and frozen at 0 degrees Centigrade. These syringes may be thawed at 9 to 12 month intervals over a period of two to three years to be reinjected into the affected site.

Bruising and swelling last on the average of 7 to 10 days post surgery. A flesh colored concealer is custom blended to cover the bruised area to allow for early return to work or social activities within 2 to 3 days. Generally, the depressed areas are slightly "overfilled" at the initial procedure to compensate for absorption. "Lumpiness" at the injection site is common for two to three weeks after the procedure but this smooths out with time and light massage to achieve a smooth surface contour.
